1787
Sugar became the leading export.
1897
Trinidad was responsible for producing 20% of the world’s cocoa supply.
1908
Oil was added as a major export. Trinidad was a major supplier of fuel oil to the Allied Forces during World War I and II. The oil refinery in Trinidad was the largest in the world at that time.
1971
Natural Gas was discovered. Trinidad is the 7th largest exporter of LNG, largest exporter of Ammonia & Methanol.
